After last week’s horrible try at Nutella, I needed to redeem myself. Last night, we had company over, so it was the perfect time to take a stab at Homemade Funnel Cakes! Street fairs and county fairs do not happen enough for me to get my fill of funnel cake yumminess. I found a pretty simple recipe on Tablespoon. It only required 4 things – pancake mix, eggs, milk, and the powder sugar to top it off with.
Simple and quick – PERFECT!
Girl Versus Dough does a great job with the Step-By-Step instructions, so I see no point in reinventing the wheel. I do want to give you some pointers from my experience last night.
Pointer #1 – You can use a Deep Fryer. I do not have a candy thermometer, but my deep fryer has a temp setting. It was the perfect size for medium funnel cakes.
Pointer #2 – If you do larger ones, they will take longer than 30 seconds per side. the oil will start to bubble through the holes rapidly when it’s time to flip.
Pointer #3 – Use a baggie or an icing bag to pour your batter into the grease.
Pointer #4 – The bigger the funnel cake the more time it will take. The recipe says “30 seconds per side,” but this is for mini cakes.
Pointer #5 – Experiment! Try smothering cake in powdered sugar, bananas drizzled with butterscotch caramel topping. (Oh, so YUMMY!)
